Large display cabinet

Display cabinet

This custom built display cabinet was designed by DecoWorks. A design feature is the addition of Chinese lattice corner trimming on the windows and door.

The display cabinet has a solid timber frame that is made from Tasmanian Oak for strength. The windows are 6.38mm clear laminated glass and the large mirrors on the back are 6mm thick. A 4mm mirror is fitted on the base of the cabinet to enhance the visual appeal of the contents.

The cabinet, which stands two metres tall, is designed to fit into a corner. It has five 100mm brushed aluminium legs fitted to the base. The door is secured by a magnetic catch and there are three LED down lights fitted in the top to illuminate the cabinet contents. The display cabinet top cover hides the LED units and also makes looking down from above much neater.

Toughened 10mm thick "Starfire" glass was chosen for the three shelves because of their size and limited support points. The "Starfire" glass is much less green than normal glass - particularly when its toughened. The thicker glass also allows heavier items to be displayed without any worry of shelf breakage. The finish is a metallic Dulux finish which adds to the cabinet's overall open and light feeling. The pictures below highlight the various aspects of the display cabinet design.
